Cyclists venture along the route of the Cambridge Guided Busway. Originally scheduled for opening in February 2009, the busway is still not open over two years later and a number of defects still remain. These include fixing defects at the River Great Ouse viaduct, completing the cycleway, adjusting gaps between the concrete blocks to allow for expansion in the summer, and addressing issues with drainage that could cause flooding of the busway and cycleway for up to 29 days per year.

Bicycles are popular in Cambridge with both students and tourists. For the tourists it is an easy way to get around and see Cambridge (it is relatively flat after all and most things are condensed into a small compact central area which is generally inaccessible by motor vehicles anyway). For the student, it is not only cheap transport but there is a university regulation that forbids students to bring a motor vehicle to within a 5 mile radius of Great St Mary’s Church.
