It’s Party Time!

Cambridge is renowned for its May Balls. These are held at the end of the academic term. They were originally held in May before the year-end exams but now they take place in May Week which starts on the second Thursday in June. The balls have a strict dress code (usually black tie but Magdalene College insists on white tie while some others state it as a non-mandatory preference). The balls themselves vary from college to college with some being known for their entertainment, dining, bar and/or fireworks. Many balls go on until dawn and may conclude with breakfast or a punt trip to Grantchester. ‘Survivors’ photographs are taken of those that manage to stay the course and last until the morning when many may be seen stumbling around the Cambridge streets in a slightly more casual dress attire than when the evening started.
